THE ANNUAL FALL HARVEST FESTIVAL
An Annual Las Vegas Family-Centric Event With Italian Roots

Happy Anniversary La Voce!

My annual Fall Harvest Event held on ‘The Farm’ each year will open on October 7, 2011, about the same time that this 10th anniversary issue of the La Voce News Magazine is published.

I love reading La Voce and always look forward to seeing those wonderful faded family pictures, some taken years ago of horses pulling carts of merchandise down the streets of New York or Chicago.

I have Italian grandparents and I often reflect on my own precious pictures of my grandparents moving product to market with horse drawn carts.

My family has been a part of Southern Nevada since 1927, and if my grandparents visited my farm in North West Las Vegas today, in many ways they would feel right at home.

I’ve been working the farm 50 years and we still have horses and carts, cows, pigs and goats, raise a large number of chickens, geese, quail, even peacocks, and sell their eggs off the farm along with honey from our resident bee population, preserves, breads, all of which my grandfather in those faded pictures would probably think was pretty boring as it was the same natural and wholesome food that he was consuming at the turn of the 20th Century.

Everything here on The Farm is real. It is also a sanctuary for animals and birds of every kind imaginable that somehow find their way here, and I never turn them away. We have a chicken that is over 20 years old, and like all the others he seems to enjoy each day, always gets good food, clean water and protection from the elements.

While our family of four legged, two legged and no legged animals has grown into the hundreds, so has the support from our community that now includes multiple generations who find The Farm to be a special place to escape, if only for a short time, from the rigors of modern life here in Vegas. There is nothing plastic here; everything is real, including the volunteers that help me maintain the property and to whom I am deeply indebted.

Each weekend in October we create a wonderful community Fall Festival here on the farm based on that same philosophy: keep it real. Thousands will visit us and share what life was like many years ago and just have fun, visit with our animals, listen to music, consume some great cooked-on-the-spot food, see what ‘real’ pumpkins look like, and sample and purchase local varieties of squash that perhaps they have never seen before.

I hope that La Voce continues to build on their tradition of service to our community for decades to come.

After all, isn’t it all about family?

La Voce Las Vegas To Cover Vegas Cine Fest August 25th – 27th 2011 At The Tropicana

Patty Fantasia, host of Filmmakers Notebook Radio has not been idle.  In addition to managing her new media site that has grown to thousands of loyal followers, she also recently authored a major article in the La Voce Las Vegas News Magazine about her support for the film “More To Live For”, directed by Noah Hutton.  The film screens next week at the upcoming Vegas Cine Fest Film Festival being held at the Tropicana Hotel.

Thanks to Patty, La Voce Las Vegas Radio will be be reporting  from the film festival at the Tropicana next week and we’ve invited Patty to join us today on La Voce Las Vegas Radio today to provide us with an update on this event that has really captured the attention of our Las Vegas community.

Check back tomorrow and you’ll be able to listen to her interview.  In the meantime here’s a link to the Vegas Cine Fest site:  VEGAS CINE FEST

Over the past many months La Voce has been proud to support Dice Tomatoes and our Southern Nevada Sustainable Food Movement by publishing a full page of content each month about the movement’s activities and authored by many local growers and producers as well as John Donovan, manager of Dice Tomatoes, a New Media Site that actively supports the movement.  John also produces and hosts our La Voce Las Vegas Radio Show.

Yesterday morning we delivered a supply of our current edition of the La Voce News Magazine for John to distribute at Gina Gavin’s new Downtown Las Vegas FEED (Fremont East Entertainment District) Farmers Market and just in time for a throng of visitors to rush in as the market opened at 10:00 AM.

Like all of the wonderful products beautifully displayed by the local producers who grow these wonderful fresh-from-the-field products, our stack of La Voce News Magazines quickly disappeared too.

We are so pleased to hear the market was such a wonderful success and that John will be broadcasting his three hour radio show from the event each Thursday.

If you’re in the area and want to add your support to our local producers stop by, purchase some wonderful locally grown products, and then stop by and say hello to John and pick up a copy of the latest edition of La Voce…if there’s any left!

The market is held each Thursday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Azul Club, on 7th Street behind the El Cortez Hotel and just South of Ogden.  There’s plently of parking, either metered in front or free at the nearby multi-level parking garage on the corner.

It’s wonderful to see that we’re going to have a choice of farmers markets in Las Vegas including a new Downtown venue.

Thanks to all of you who make this possible.
